Description
Kazan Cathedral, located in the thriving metropolis of St. Petersburg, Russia, stands in palatial style on Nevsky Prospect - the main thoroughfare of the city. Modelled by Andrey Voronikhin in 1801, the cathedral took 10 years to build. Perceived primarily as a memorial to the Russian victory against Napoleon, the cathedral was in use until its doors were closed after the Russian Revolution in 1917. Services resumed in 1992 and the cathedral was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church four years later.
